About This Website
Cats & Society: Education, Advocacy, and Community is an ongoing conversation and framework for thinking about cats and people who support cats. I highlight stories and communities from around the world—from cat café owners, to authors, to content creators—to contextualize this work and to connect the smaller pieces of a larger sociological picture. To do this, I draw on my academic background and my love for cats as a person who cares deeply about our cat community.

I am a Professor of Sociology at Westminster University in Salt Lake City, Utah. In addition to teaching a wide range of classes on gender, sexuality, social policy in Scandinavia, and research methods, my courses and research focuses on the sociology of cats. My teaching combines education and advocacy for cats, particularly community cats. My research focuses on cat cafes and the connections that cat cafe owners have with the larger cat rescue community. I share my life with three wonderful rescue cats, Mr. Bear, June, and Sweet Pea. My interests include travel, visiting cat cafes, and advocating for more just communities for cats and people.
